Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask before their first travel eSIM. If your question isn't here, email [email protected].
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is a SIM card built into your phone. Instead of inserting plastic, you install a mobile plan digitally by scanning a QR code.
How quickly do I get my eSIM?
Immediately. The activation QR code is issued as soon as payment completes, usually within seconds.
How much do plans cost?
Plans start at $1.14. Prices vary by destination, how much data you need and how long the plan lasts — every destination page lists current prices.
Which phones work with Num?
iPhones from the XR and XS generation onward, provided the handset is carrier-unlocked. See the compatibility page for the full list.
Do I keep my own phone number?
Yes. The travel eSIM adds a data line alongside your existing SIM, so your number stays active for calls and texts.
When does my plan start?
Most plans begin when the eSIM first connects to a network in the coverage area, not when you buy. You can install before you travel.
Can I top up instead of buying again?
Many plans are reloadable — the app marks which. Reloadable eSIMs can be topped up in-app without reinstalling anything.
What if the eSIM doesn't work?
Check that data roaming is on for the Num line and that it is set as your cellular data line — that is the usual cause. If it still won't connect, contact support from Profile → Contact support with your order reference and we'll reissue or refund.
What is Num VIP?
An optional monthly subscription with member pricing on every plan, unlimited eSIMs, priority support and family sharing. It is not required to buy an eSIM.
How do I get a refund?
If an eSIM cannot be issued after payment, it is refunded automatically. For anything else, contact support with your order reference and we'll sort it out.
